1. What was your overall impression of the book?
I think the book was okay. I did not really like it but it was sad and deep. It kept on going worse and worse, and I never thought such bad things could happen to one person because of one other. It really showed that Ji-Li and her family suffered during the Cultural Revolution.

2. How did the book relate to what we learned in class about the Cultural Revolution?
It talked about the same things as we watched in the video but it happened to someone. It talked about the stuggle meetings and da-zi-baos like they talked about them in the video. And it really showed that the people of China worshipped Chairman Mao like a god.

3. What was your favorite/most interesting part and/or character of the book?

I liked the part when she has to choose between her family and her country because I think she made the right choice and it was really well told.
